Sarah has extensive pedagogical experience, having taught a diverse range of levels, abilities, and styles, and in numerous contexts.

Sarah’s current teaching work takes place as a freelance teacher in New Zealand and internationally, and in the Dance Studies Programme at the University of Auckland.

At the University, Sarah teaches dance techniques, professional practices, dance education and choreography. She also produces and manages performances for the department. Sarah is the artistic director and tour manager for the department’s annual international professional development trip for final year undergraduate students. Sarah supervises Honours and Masters students in a range of research topics. Sarah is heavily involved in undergraduate student recruitment and oversees the annual audition process. Sarah has also presented dance workshops as part of World Dance Alliance international conferences.

Sarah is the co-director of Trigger Dance which provides creative and collaborative dance education and elite contemporary dance coaching opportunities for young dancers. Trigger dance also offers professional development workshops for teachers.

At pre-tertiary/recreational level, Sarah has taught at a number of private dance studios in New Zealand and works as a guest teacher for master classes, workshops and events. She has taught all RAD and NZAMD ballet grades, NZAMD contemporary, and open classes in all styles. Sarah has taught in schools all over New Zealand both with Footnote Dance and as an independent artist. She has taught and overseen dance workshops at Dulwich College International throughout Asia. She has experience in the NCEA dance subject area, and has taught professional development workshops for teachers in both studios and high schools around New Zealand.

Sarah offers private and small group coaching to elite young dancers, including competition choreography, exam work, and audition preparation.

Sarah has also taught at the New Zealand School of Dance, Unitec (Performing and Screen Arts Programme), La Salle College of the Arts (Singapore). She now works regularly as an external moderator for Unitec’s contemporary and ballet technique assessments.

Sarah has taught professional level classes at Raising the Barre (Wellington), Independance (Auckland) and company classes for Footnote New Zealand Dance and the New Zealand Dance Company. She has also run independent professional level ballet classes in Auckland and Wellington.

Sarah is also a qualified yoga (200) teacher and is able to teach hot style sequences, vinyasa and yin yoga. She has also worked as a Pilates teacher.
